More attempts to connect to the NXT via Bluetooth

Partial success. Only had a little time tonight to play with the NXT.
Worked on getting Bluetooth communicating.

I uninstalled the driver that came with the dongle, and had Windows (XP)
install its own. That didn't help in itself. Going to the NXT window in the
Mindstorms software and doing a Scan, nothing connected.

Then I ran the Bluetooth application that came with the dongle,
and had it search for devices. Now it saw the NXT! It said
"NXT"! Many happinesses! On the NXT, it showed me the four-digit
passcode, which I entered in the application. It now showed an icon
for "NXT". More happinesses!

So I went back to the NXT window and tried Scan again.
After it's usual long delay, nothing.

Will try more soon...

I have a 1520 and have the same problem. Please post any solutions you come up with.

I still have not gotten Bluetooth working with the NXT. Very frustrating.

I have read that you should not install the IVT driver that comes with the Cables Unlimited USB Bluetooth dongle (USB-1520 or USB-1530).

Use the Widcomm Bluetooth Generic Radio driver that comes with XP SP2. My problem is that after I uninstalled the IVT driver, I couldn't find the Widcomm driver. I contact HP and they had me download a 40M (!) program to run that would make the driver (and many others) accessible. I did that. The problem is that it seems that when I install that, it also re-installs the IVT drivers.

Anyway, it still does not work. I can get it to connect using the Blue Soleil application, but when I do a "Scan" inside the NXT software, it never finds the NXT brick.

Finally resolved my Bluetooth connection issues (many the same symptoms as everyone else, so I hope this helps). I'm running WinXP Home SP2 on a Toshiba laptop (I removed the Toshiba Bluetooth stack) using a Kensington dongle (from BestBuy) that comes with Widcomm drivers. The NXT firmware has been updated to 1.04. Ok, the short of it is that I was having a timeout issue. The NXT would show up as "Unavailable" in the connection window in the Mindstorm software. Based on another suggestion, I was able to at least get it to say "Available", but it would still give the lost connection error message when attempting to connect. That other suggestion was to hit the orange button on the NXT immediately as soon as it made the sound and asked for a pass-code. Just leave the default 1234 and hit the orange button as soon as you hear that tone. Look in the install directory of the Mindstorm software for a file named "MINDSTORMS Options.ini". In this file, modify the BluetoothSearchTimeout setting. Mine was set to 20 (assuming seconds) as default. I bumped it up to 60. As soon as I did that, I was able to connect all the way through. Some other suggestions that I did along the way, though I can't be sure any of these made a difference: Be sure the "Remove" and "Scan" connections in the Mindstorm software after you have a failure. I'm highly suspicious that it is caching a lot of that stuff. Also, be sure you don't have the NXT configured as a Bluetooth connection/device on your PC. If the dialog that pops up on you PC asking for a passcode is a Windows dialog, it probably won't work. You want the dialog to popup from the Mindstorm software. Hope that helps.

I'm running WinXP SP2 with an Advanttek Networks USB Bluetooth. Anyone can tell me if it's possible to connect the NXT with this bluetooth stick and with what driver?
